Just recently, agirlwhowrites nominated me for a Blogger Recognition Award. This is the second time I’ve been nominated for this award, and this second nomination touched me as much as the first.

agirlwhowrites wrote some very thought-provoking questions in her award post. Though I’m not formally posting the award for myself, I couldn’t resist answering her questions below, and thought I’d take this opportunity to let my blog readers participate, as well.

I’ve learned so much from reading agirlwhowrites blog, and can relate to a lot of what she writes. When I read her posts, I always feel encouraged to think positively and strive for good things. She is an excellent story teller, and I do hope you’ll visit her blog.

Please consider sharingI would love for anyone reading this post to share their answers to any of the questions below. Hey, just for fun, please share the links to the following posts in your blog, and I will definitely visit them, and hope others will, too:

  • The post on your blog you wrote on most impulse.
  • The post on your blog that YOU personally love the most, regardless of its popularity.
  • The post on your blog that most people “liked”.

Questions for me:

  1. Why does writing appeal to you?

I have always loved to express myself in many ways (dance, cooking, storytelling, and other creative endeavors).  From my earliest years people called me “gabby”, but in recent years I’ve been home alone a lot, so instead of talking peoples’ ears off, I rather quickly tap on my laptop keyboard most of the day. In my About section, you’ll read that writing is the “dance and flight of my mind and fingers.”

  1. Which post on your blog did you write on an impulse?

Oh, a lot of my posts were written on an impulse. Though not my most visited post, Beethoven’s Musical Flight of Ideas was one that I wrote almost immediately upon getting home from the concert that inspired it. I was a little hypomanic from my bipolar disorder at the time, or at least elated from the intensity of the music. I was so excited by little things, as well, like Beethoven cookies and the beauty of the walk home through the university campus, where the concert was held.

Bonus question answers:

  • My personal FAV post – I like my My very caring little bird story. It’s a very simple story. Definitely NOT a literary masterpiece, but I loved that afternoon a lot. I was happy to share it.
  • My most popular posts – For some reason my photo challenge posts are among my most “liked” posts. Once I learn the word prompt for these challenges I usually bolt into action and come up with an idea lickity split. I guess I’m kind of good at picking the right photos in my collections for the prompt, and writing captions to accompany them. People can select the “Photo” category in my blog to see my submissions. My MOST popular post for likes is Total confusion about portion sizes. I guess it appealed to people in a popular niche. It’s definitely not my favorite post that I wrote.
  1. And what do you feel about that post now?

I love the Beethoven’s Musical Flight of Ideas post. It’s among my favorite posts after the “My very caring little bird story” post, because it represents a wonderful little memory I’ll have forever.

  1. Which is your favorite animal, and why?

Parrots, but I love all animals. I’ve really grown to have a passion for birds over the last 20 years. They are so smart, cute, naughty, funny, and loving, even the littlest ones in the wild, like hummingbirds. I’ve written several posts about birds. How could I not? This is the “Bird Flight” blog.

  1. Which movie influenced your writing, and why?

Hmm? I guess if you combine some Woody Allen films, Pride and Prejudice, and old films starring Cary Grant and Bugs Bunny you might come close to seeing my style. I know that’s a strange mix. I can’t think of only one movie. I like to mix some serious topics with humorous and cute ones. I usually like happy endings.

  1. Which character (from any film/ novel/ show/ you get what I mean) can you most relate to? Why?

As far as my bipolar disorder goes (but NOT my personality), Jasmine of Woody Allen’s film “Blue Jasmine”. As far as my personality, I’d love to be like Amy Shumer or Tina Fey.

  1. Which is the most inspiring piece of art that you’ve ever come across? (Can be a movie, play, book… anything.)

Inspiring? The book “An Unquiet Mind” by Kay Redfield Jamison. If I could end up doing anything even close to what she’s managed to do, despite her bipolar disorder, I’d be very happy. She’s creative, smart, strong, determined, and admired. As for my very favorite piece of art, it is a painting of forsythia in a vase. It’s absolutely beautiful and has special meaning for me.

  1. If you could choose to be a different living form (plant, animal, even a microbe), which one would that be?

A parrot in the wild. I’d love to fly in a beautiful environment. They are usually social animals, and their diet is reasonably appealing. They’re smart and affectionate.

  1. Are you attached to any one possession of yours? If yes, why?

Other than my hubby (though I guess he’s not a possession), I’d say my car. I still own the same car I bought new in 1997. It’s long since paid off, still works great, and is 100% totally mine alone. It takes me where I want to go. Note: When my pet parrotlet was alive I would have answered that him.

  1. Have you ever been to a place that caused a radical change in your beliefs?

University. Politically and philosophically I changed for the better.

So far nobody has wanted to share links. I guess that idea just didn’t appeal to people. Thank you all, though, for reading my answers to the questions and supporting this post. I appreciate all of you!
