Main Topic: Extreme stress and binge eating (self-medication)
I have been under a great deal of stress lately because of many things. I won’t list them here, but I’d say they number at least five. Unfortunately, I am not always good at handling stress, despite years of learning and practicing coping skills in therapy.
I’ve felt so unwell for the past couple of weeks. I must confess that I “fell off the wagon” both weeks, but particularly this week. Some of my meals were just scrounged from the far reaches of the fridge. Some were delivery, and not the most diet-friendly choices. I guess in my ill state I just didn’t care. Sorry I’m not a better example for dieters right now. Those who follow this update series know that I gained a bit last week. My weight has been going up and down. I’ve been lucky so far that the downs have been about the same as the ups. Continue reading →
I have mentioned my bipolar disorder in past Friday Fitness and Weight Loss updates, but I haven’t fully explained how mood disorders, and some of their medications, can affect weight loss efforts. Of course not everyone with bipolar disorder has the same struggles or successes, but there are tendencies that do seem common. I’d like to reflect on this in this update. As usual, I will also share this week’s results. Continue reading →
It’s been a tough couple of weeks! My computer has given me major problems (explaining the combined weeks 10 & 11 post), my mood has been low, and my motivation to keep up my fitness and weight loss journey was disturbed much of the time. At the end of week 10, I thought I would’ve at least maintained my weight, but I didn’t though my calorie consumption seemed mostly in the maintenance or slight weight loss range. This past week 11, I did a little bit better. I weighed myself a bit early, and was encouraged. Luckily, I lost a touch more by my weigh-in day. Here are my results: Continue reading →
Nine weeks, and I’m still writing these updates! For me, keeping a fitness and weight loss journey on my mind this long is a good sign, even if not all weeks were perfect. I went a little hog wild with my eating during my vacation in May, and getting back to better eating has been slow and intermittent, however, I’ve not abandoned the effort. This week’s weight loss results could surprise most, especially if they knew some of what I ate, but various factors can bring surprises. Actually, I have a couple theories about this week’s weight change. See my summary and reflections below. Continue reading →
Above: Some of the foods I went overboard eating this week.
Well, you might recall my hefty weight loss just after my return home from Portugal, but since then I’ve fallen off the fitness and weight loss program. I’m glad, however, that I continue to write these updates. Continue reading →
TGIF! I’m happy to report that I’m finally tracking my eating again, after not doing so during the full course of my recent two-week vacation, and four days after my return. Those following my updates saw that I gained much more than expected during my time away from home. Stress eating and illness unfortunately played a part. Continue reading →
I’m back! I just returned from a 2-week vacation in Portugal. That is the reason for my delayed (and Monday) posting of my weeks 5 & 6 Friday Fitness and Weight Loss updates. Before I left, I decided that I would not track my eating during my time abroad. It just seemed too difficult given many factors. I did, however, hope to remain mindful of my eating (and drinking) while abroad and to journal about it while away. I didn’t expect to lose any weight during that time, but of course I hoped to perhaps maintain, or at least not gain back too much. Well, below you can read what happened in the end.
