Week 5 – Friday Fitness & Weight Loss Restart (Normal Weight Fluctuations)

Weight fluctuations
Person weighs 67.9 kg (149.7 lbs) on Day 3 at breakfast. After supper, 69.55 kg (153.3 lbs). That’s a 1.65 kg (3.64 lb) gain the same day. Weight decreases notably by next day (Day 4) breakfast.

Last Friday, my scale showed a mini weight gain. I had stayed within my daily calorie allowances. The gain annoyed me for that reason, and because it undid my accomplishment of reaching an interim goal. However, I knew I lost fat. Just knew it! I coughed up the gain to “other factors”, meaning water weight, hormonal fluctuations, and/or something else. My weight can fluctuate greatly, even within a day. So, I put that behind me. I expected that I’d see a good result today. Did I? See below. Continue reading

Week 4 – Friday Fitness & Weight Loss Restart (Simplifying Meal Prep)

Leftovers
Leftovers simplify meal prep for future meals and help prevent rash food choices.

Even as an enthusiastic cook, I sometimes need a break. I don’t want to halt my weight loss journey, just ease up on some of the effort and time needed for meal planning and preparation. Fatigue and excess stress can lead to bad food choices, I know. I have to avoid this. Ways to simplify meal prep and planning is this week’s topic. But first things first – see my week’s weight change below. Continue reading

Week 3 – Friday Fitness & Weight Loss Restart (Yummy food helps me lose)

Week 3 image diet food helps me lose

I would have been quite surprised if I didn’t lose weight this past week! I was determined to meet my interim goal of reaching the next lower 10 lb weight bracket, by today. Though my exercise did slightly dip, my daily food allowances were not exceeded. And yet, I think that some would not have thought all of my daily menus diet-like. Menu planning takes effort, but it’s more than worth it. Loving to cook and bake helps, too. Curious about my week’s weight change? It’s right below. Continue reading

Week 2 – Friday Fitness & Weight Loss Restart (Cognitive Distortion?)

Hikers in woods
Exploring new paths ends boredom.

I continued to stick to my eating plan perfectly, this second week of my Fitness & Weight Loss journey. My large Week 1 weight loss kindled my zeal to continue, along with some nice hikes in new places. I’m happy to report good results again, and share some of my newest observations. But first, my weigh-in results: Continue reading

Week 1 – Friday Fitness & Weight Loss Restart (Water Weight Loss)

Water weight loss

As announced in my post two days ago, Weight/Fitness Journey Restarts, I finally restarted my journey towards better health. Though it’s only been four days since I started tracking my food intake, and staying within a designated allowance, I have already seen a most pleasant reduction in my weight. Normally my weigh-ins will be every seven days, on Fridays, but look what’s happened already after four: Continue reading

Weight/Fitness Journey restarts (and icky peanut butter)

Diet again

About two and a half years ago, I started a once per week post series called “Friday Fitness and Weight Loss Updates”. Each Friday, I posted my weight loss for the week, as well as my challenges, discoveries, tips, and occasional healthful recipes. That lasted a total of 30 weeks, a few which were spent on vacation in Portugal. I shed over 10 pounds (4.5 kg) during that effort, though by week 30 I found myself down only about 5 pounds (2.25 kg) from my starting weight, because of subsequent regaining. That effort was then abandoned. But, after a long hiatus, I’ve dusted off my sneakers, and tracked my first day’s meals. Below I describe my inspirations to restart the journey, as well as a tip you might find humorous. Continue reading

Week 13 – Friday Fitness and Weight Loss Update

Turtle race
My weight loss may sometimes be slow, but I will make it to the finish line!

I have mentioned my bipolar disorder in past Friday Fitness and Weight Loss updates, but I haven’t fully explained how mood disorders, and some of their medications, can affect weight loss efforts. Of course not everyone with bipolar disorder has the same struggles or successes, but there are tendencies that do seem common. I’d like to reflect on this in this update. As usual, I will also share this week’s results. Continue reading

Beef Stroganoff – Diet-friendly version, but only the cook may know it

Beef Stroganoff Light version
Beef Stroganoff served with egg noodles

In my household, Beef Stroganoff is both a comfort food, and yet more than worthy of serving to guests, including my diet-friendly version. I had never eaten or made this dish until about 15 years ago. My first version was loosely based on one considered fully “Core” for Weight Watcher’s former Core Plan, now the Simply Filling Plan. I’ve since reworked this recipe from its simpler version, to one that wows both my husband and I. Continue reading

Weeks 10 & 11 – Friday Fitness and Weight Loss Updates

Steps back steps forward
One step backward, two steps forward equals progress

It’s been a tough couple of weeks! My computer has given me major problems (explaining the combined weeks 10 & 11 post), my mood has been low, and my motivation to keep up my fitness and weight loss journey was disturbed much of the time.  At the end of week 10, I thought I would’ve at least maintained my weight, but I didn’t though my calorie consumption seemed mostly in the maintenance or slight weight loss range. This past week 11, I did a little bit better. I weighed myself a bit early, and was encouraged. Luckily, I lost a touch more by my weigh-in day. Here are my results: Continue reading
